Victoria’s Wyndham City Council was presented with the 2017 National Award for Excellence in Local Government, at the official NGA dinner at Parliament House on Tuesday this week.
Minster for Local Government and Territories Fiona Nash said the National Awards for Local Government celebrate exceptional local government projects that are making a significant difference to the lives of residents across Australia.
“These annual awards clearly show that the local government sector continues to deliver improved services and better outcomes to help build the kinds of communities that our children and grandchildren will want to either stay in or come back to,” Minister Nash said.
“Congratulations to all of the 2017 category winners, especially Wyndham City Council for its innovative approach in developing and delivering the WynLens—Visualization, Analysis and Modelling of a Holographic City project.”
Minister Nash said the Wyndham City Council project would be a game changer for residents in the Wyndham City region with the potential to be rolled out across the country.
“The WynLens project enhances community engagement and improves planning outcomes by allowing residents to visualise local surroundings using interactive 3D and immersive landscapes,” she said.
“In developing WynLens in partnership with the tertiary and private sectors, Wyndham City has succeeded in employing cutting-edge technology to improve its local community’s understanding of planning and development proposals.”
To qualify for consideration as the national award winner, the WynLens project won the Innovation to Create More Liveable Australian Cities category, sponsored by Optus Business.
