Grants available for councils to enhance their overseas aid activities

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon Julie Bishop MP, recently launched a program that will be of interest to councils across Australia.

The $10 million, three-year Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program will support Australian organisations – including councils – to do more to help communities in our part of the world. Organisations can apply for grants of $30,000 to $60,000 for a range of activities, including education, healthcare, water supply and sanitation, rural development, and projects that promote economic sustainability through the empowerment of women and girls.

Applications for Round 1 will open this coming Monday 18 June. Program documentation, including a link to the online application form, will be available on the DFAT website from this date.

Applications will close on Monday 27 August and successful applicants will be announced from November 2018.

More information is available in the Foreign Minister’s video about the Friendship Grants on the DFAT website.
