NSW airports set for upgrades under Round 2 of RAP

Four northern NSW regional airports have been awarded $1.2 million for runway upgrades and other projects under Round 2 of the Regional Airports Program.

The upgrades at the Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell, and Quirindi airports are the first Round 2 projects to be announced, with further notifications expected to follow.

In Armidale, $300,000 in federal funding will deliver an airside aircrew rest facility for emergency services, access gates, aircraft tie-downs, and other improvements.

In Tamworth, $300,000 will fund reconstruction and sealing of the taxiway pavement, improving safety and access, while Inverell will receive over $278,000 for runway lighting upgrades, new wind indicators, and a backup generator to support crucial aviation operations.

Quirindi will receive almost $300,000 for runway pavement repairs.

The $100 million Regional Airports Program is running over four years from 2019-20 to 2022-23 with the objective of improving the safety and accessibility of regional airports or aerodromes.
