Submission on National Biosecurity Reforms

The Australian Local Government Association has made a submission to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) on National Biosecurity Reforms.

ALGA was pleased to see many of local government’s priority issues represented in DAFF’s discussion paper, such as funding reform, capacity and workforce development, and data sharing.

Local government wants to see more funding invested in biosecurity, particularly weed, pests and invasive species management.

ALGA is advocating for local government to be formally recognised and funded through reform to federal financial agreements, like the National Environmental Biosecurity Response Agreement (NEBRA).
