Submission on Solar Panel Reuse and Recycling in Australia

Local governments are key national partners in both resource management and the renewable energy transition. Councils are enthusiastic to see a proactive and coordinated approach to reusing and recycling solar panels so they don’t take up scarce landfill space. Local governments also see the job opportunities that come from recycling solar panels.

ALGA made a submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, for its Inquiry into Solar Panel Reuse and Recycling. We recommend that the Australian Government lift investment and establish national mandatory product stewardship for PV panels so that industry pays to reuse and recycle panels.
