Submission on the Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme for Packaging (No Time to Waste) Bill 2026

ALGA has made a submission to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee on the Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme for Packaging (No Time to Waste) Bill 2026.

The need for effective, national and mandatory product stewardship is urgent. The full cost of managing packaging at end-of-life should be borne by producers, rather than being passed to councils and ratepayers to manage.

ALGA supports all efforts to establish a national, mandatory product stewardship scheme for packaging and plastics, underpinned by a full extended producer responsibility (EPR) model.
