What are your plans for Plastic Free July this year?

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

What started out as a local government initiative in WA, the award-winning Plastic Free July behaviour change campaign is now one of the world’s biggest environmental movements.  Over 100 councils around Australia participated in 2019 to reduce plastic waste.

Focused on an effective behaviour change strategic approach, the campaign had 2.8 million participants Australia wide in 2019 and research has uncovered that participants reduced their waste by 23kg (5%).

In this 10th anniversary year all councils are invited to participate in the challenge to tackle the growing plastic waste crisis.

For the first time, based on extensive consultation and feedback from councils, Plastic Free July has launched a tailored Council Challenge Membership, providing useful tools to help residents avoid plastic waste. With the increasing costs of recycling and Australia’s waste export ban soon commencing the ‘reduce’ message is more important than ever.

Memberships are now open and an information kit, tiered pricing structure and application form can be found online at https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/memberships/
