2017 REGIONAL COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT FORUM
18 JUNE 2017

This year's Regional Cooperation and Development Forum will be held on Sunday 18 June at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. The Forum allows for the sharing of ideas and opportunities through both a mix of academic and practitioner insights, and is the official venue for the launch of the annual State of the Regions Report.

This year's report by National Economics continues to examine the critical importance of boosting growth in regional productivity. It examines the levers that can drive growth and thereby assist to tackle the growing inequality found in parts of Australia. This year’s report continues to build on the accumulated knowledge of previous State of the Regions to provide a coherent framework for analyzing the challenging task of contributing to sustainable regional development and what this means for all levels of government.

Given the Productivity Commission’s study into Transitioning Regional economies, this year's Regional Cooperation and Development Forum will provide an opportunity for the delegates to participate in an interactive workshop with the Commissioner and senior officers from the Commission. A panel will also be discussing the challenges and opportunities of driving productivity growth in regions.

Confirmed speakers include: the Hon Fiona Nash, Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and the Territories; Artist Calista Lyon; Mr Martin Gill, Meander Valley Council ( 2017 National Local Government Award Winner of the Contributing to Regional Growth), Mr Kenneth Epps, Visy; Mr Simon France AusIndustry; Samantha Kennedy, Optus; Dr Caroline Perkins, Regional Universities Network; Productivity Commissioner Paul Lindwall; and Shadow Minister for Regional Services, territories and Local Government and Regional Communication, Stephen Jones MP.
