The Australian Coastal Councils Association is holding a national forum to consider the local government planning issues relating to online short-term holiday rental platforms, such as Airbnb and Stayz. The forum will be held on Tuesday 20 March 2018 in conjunction with the 2018 Australian Coastal Councils Conference at Geelong. It will include the findings of a research study into the issue by Professor Nicole Gurran, the Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at The University of Sydney. The study is aimed at Identifying relevant responses to growth in online short-term holiday rental platforms in terms of local government planning frameworks, rating regimes, regulations and complaint mechanisms. The forum will include presentations on planning responses already adopted by coastal councils and a workshop with input from all participants.
