$40m boost for Bridges Renewal Program over four years

The Federal Government will invest an additional $10 million each year for the next four years in the successful Bridges Renewal Program (BRP).

The pre-Budget announcement means annual funding disbursements from the BRP will rise to $95 million.

Last year, the Commonwealth revised the program to enable state, territory and local governments to lodge grant applications on an ongoing basis so they could plan and submit their best-quality projects as and when needed.

Federal Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz said that the extra funding would assist communities to stay connected and improve regional infrastructure.

“Since the [program] began in 2015-16 it has supported 730 projects, of which 495 projects have been completed,” Mr Buchholz said.

Projects eligible for future funding include replacing and widening bridges, strengthening existing structures, and upgrading floodways to bridges.
