Cycling Luminiaries Awards Nominations Open

Since 2002, the national Cycling Luminaries Awards have recognised Australian local governments and Councils who have created more liveable, attractive and active communities through the provision of bicycle infrastructure and programs.

The call is now out to every Council to nominate and receive recognition for their efforts over the last year to make the choice to ride a bike easier, safer and more attractive.

The winner will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne on 15 May in three categories, Leadership (the people that get Australia riding), Bike Culture (the programs that get Australia riding) and Built Environment (the places that get Australia riding).

In 2018, the Sunshine Coast Council won the Bike Culture Award for their innovative use of smart tech for bike riding to school.

2017 saw recognition of the economic transformation happening in the Dorset Council with development of the Blue Derby MTB trails – winner of the Bicycle Infrastructure Award. Six other Councils were nominated that year. In 2018, it was Maydena’s Bike Park in Tasmania that won the Award!
