Australia’s national asbestos watchdog is surveying councils to obtain best-practice interventions and case studies for inclusion in a new toolkit.
The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency (ASEA) says the toolkit will enable local governments to help prevent asbestos exposures and contribute to a more effective and consistent approach to asbestos safety.
Participation in the survey and the research work being carried out by Heartward Strategic on behalf of the ASEA is voluntary, and all information collected will be treated as confidential.
Early findings from the research will be presented at the Asbestos Safety & Management Conference on 19–20 May.
ASEA says the 10-15 minute survey is best completed by staff who have some responsibility for, or oversight of, the development and implementation of council waste management strategies, including illegal dumping and the prevention of asbestos exposure, or who are involved in collecting data about or evaluating relevant initiatives.
The survey will be open until 3 June and the toolkit will be freely available later this year.
