The first annual progress report on the Darwin City Deal has revealed rapid progress on plans to transform Darwin into a cooler and greener city.
Cavenagh Street in the City’s CBD has been greened and shaded and energy-saving LED lighting has been installed across the city as part of the Switching On Darwin project.
The CSIRO’s Darwin Living Lab, which is part of the City Deal, is testing and evaluating heat mitigation measures and tropical urban design.
Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said: “It is great to see all levels of government working together to make Darwin a more vibrant and liveable city”.
Construction of the new Charles Darwin Education and Community Precinct is about to get underway, and Cr Vatskalis said he looked forward to seeing what else will be achieved over the next year.
