Productivity Commission Study into Transitioning Regional Economies

ALGA welcomed the Productivity Commission’s comprehensive initial report that was released in April 2017.

While ALGA agrees in principle with many of the Commission’s initial findings and overall commentary, it is not without qualification in parts.

ALGA concurs with the Commission’s observation that “by its nature, the geography of our economic transition will not be consistent across the country and that the combination of forces driving the transition will unavoidably create friction points in specific regional areas and localities across the country”.

ALGA will continue to advocate the necessity for the Australian Government to provide greater leadership and policy support when it comes to matters relating to national regional policy and regional development interventions.
