Charleville’s levee banks will be upgraded after the Murweh Shire Council last week won a $300,000 share of Commonwealth mitigation funding.
The levee remediation project was one of 15 awarded Round 2 funding of $50 million through the National Flood Mitigation Infrastructure Program (NFMIP).
The NFMIP is funded through the Commonwealth’s $4 billion Emergency Response Fund and is intended to support upgrades of levees, dams and detention basins, and stormwater management infrastructure.
The 15 projects announced last week are in addition to the 22 projects announced in May 2021 under round 1 of the NFMIP.
Details of the 15 successful projects can be found on the National Recovery and Resilience Agency’s homepage.
The Round 2 funding is in addition to the $150 million that is being withdrawn from the ERF to support further recovery and post-disaster resilience activities in flood-affected areas in NSW and Queensland.
