Former Baltimore mayor to headline Brisbane cities summit

Martin O’Malley, once named one of America’s five best big-city mayors by Time Magazine will be speaking at next month’s Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Brisbane.

The former Baltimore mayor was also a 2016 US Democratic presidential candidate, and the 61st Governor of Maryland.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said: “While events around the world continue to be cancelled because of the Covid, we’ve worked really hard to ensure this highly regarded summit can go ahead.

“This is a rare opportunity for local companies and business leaders, to hear from a globally-renowned thought leader … and to connect with other major cities,” Cr Schrinner said.

The theme for this year’s summit, being held from 8-12 September, is “Redefining Cities through Opportunities and Challenges”.

Paralympian Kurt Fearnley will also be speaking at the summit, founded by the Brisbane City Council in 1996 to help drive economic growth for the city and southeast Queensland as well as Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
