New Cwth grant program to give regional sports extra bounce

A Commonwealth grant program supporting community and elite sports events in rural and regional Australia has opened for applications.

The Regional Sport Events Fund will disburse up to $1.9 million through two funding streams, with grants of up to $50,000 available to eligible local governments.

These grants will enable councils to partner with their local clubs/associations and sporting event organisers to host a wider range of community sports events, ranging from “come and try days” to larger events, including elite sporting exhibitions and state-level competitions that encourage more visits to regional Australia.

Stream 1 grants – of between $1000 and $10,000 to support small community sporting events – will be administered on a “first in, best dressed” basis (pending eligibility of applicants).

Applications for Stream 2 grants – of between $15,000 and $50,000 to support large regional sporting events – will be reviewed and awarded on the quality of application, with notification of outcomes and funding expected in April 2022.

More details about the program, including the Fund Guidelines and closing dates, can be found on Sport Australia’s Grants and Funding page.
