City of Darwin business support program wins MAV award

The City of Darwin council has taken out the top award at this year’s Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) National Awards for Excellence in Technology.

The city won the Australian Achievement of the Year Category (and the Smart City Achievement of the Year category) for its myDarwin Support Local Program.

This discount voucher program, launched in May 2020, encourages people to spend their money with local businesses and was initially funded with $300,000 from the council’s parking reserves and money from the NT government.

More than 400 local merchants and 37,000 Territorians have registered to participate in the program, which has injected more than $5 million into the local economy to support jobs and businesses in Darwin.

A new round began in January this year, with further funding from the NT government.

The MAV Technology Awards for Excellence celebrate the efforts and achievements of local government using innovative technology solutions to support council business objectives and improve community services.
